Day two in Jaca. I decided to take a rest day here. The hotel is only 35€ and has a full private bath and my ankle/shin needs some healing anyway. So, my clothes have been washed in the sink and there was siteseeing earlier.

I started by visiting the Catedral de San Pedro. Although originally Romanesque it is now a mixture of styles after a couple fires and reconstructions. It was dark inside and chanting was going on so I did not really get to see the interior but the ambience made up for it.

Next, I headed to the Ayuntamiento for a pilgrim stamp which I could not get, but I did acquire a nice city map. There was also a nice brochure on the Camino de Santiago through Aragon that will go in my scrapbook.

The church of Santiago provided me with a stamp and my official Spanish pilgrim credential. Not too much original remains on that 10th century structure. The original was destroyed by Almanzor and rebuilt by Sancho Ramíez in 1088. Only the romanesqu tower remains from that period.

I rushed to the Ciuadela for the 11-12 o'clock tour. The tour group consisted of just me and an older Spanish couple. the guide was very friendly and knew a little English. We spoke for a little about my pilgrimage in Spanish. It is good to practice.

I was amazed by how unique this fort is. It is the best star shaped fort in Europe and nearly original. The tour was very informative and I had an English transcript of the narrative to refer to. The citadel still serves as an officers barracks too.

I think I will turn in early today. it is 9 o'clock and I finished my &euro .55 1 liter box of wine. it is time to partially pack up for tomorrow and get some sleep.
