This didn't go as planned. The last couple of miles to the TH went easily though under constant threat of rain. In fact a few sprinkles came through before I put don the tent. The next few miles on the road got me to the Ridge Stock Driveway again. I ascended the hill behind the sheep corral and topped out in a trackless meadow. I picked up the trail again at the top and ended up on 867.3A to begin a long roadwalk. There were several ATVs, dirt bikes, and trucks to keep me company the rest of the day. After a couple more miles I exited onto 867 and continued happy that routefinding was going so well. I found the turnoff that I'd planned to take to the Blue Mesa Cutoff Road but it soon ended at private property. That was a bit of a problem. I had to turn around and hike out on 867 to US 50. That added miles plus would make finding a campsite difficult because of pvt property down the road. Additionally it added a lot of extra walking on 50 the next day. I put in some long miles though and found a good spot above water even. Now that I've looked closer at the map though I think that I didn't quite make it to National Forest land so I'm stealth camping. Tomorrow will be another long day on the road but what is that to someone who thruhiked the MST? It's raining now. |
