The trail has remained close to the Divide since it gained the ridge yesterday. For 130+ miles the Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide Trail share the same treadway. That's cool except being on the Divide means water sources are scarce. Of course it drizzled for hours today so if I want to take water from the muddy trail I can. Looking ahead I see that the next few days will have the same problem. Although on the Divide the trail didn't go over any big mountains. All hiking was at or below 11,000 ft on forested ridges. There were a number of nice meadows and overlooks but the drizzle and overcast sky made for bad views and pictures. I'm slowly eating down my food supply. My pack is way overloaded especially now that I realize I might be having to carry a lot of water in the days ahead. |
