So, here begins the adventure. Witness the 90+ foot precipice and those brave souls trusting a 7/16 inch (11mm) rope. Lastly, join us in our celebration after returning to the safety of home.

That does not look like 100 feet of rope, does it? (There is some more uncoiling from the ground)

This is the view from the first ledge about thirty feet from the top. This affords a good opportunity to remove the rope from a scrub bush that is always in the way and is not visible in this picture. Also since the remaining cliff is a sixty foot overhang, the ledge allows the lucky rappeller to get a HUGE leap off the cliff and heat those gloves!

Looking down from the ledge, we can see the bush-entangled rope and the mighty creek. I never did get that rope out of the bush that rappel, but it didn't slow me down too much. :-)

Here, I am suspended over the edge for one last picture.

Approximately thirty feet down, another photo-op presents itself. The guy watching, my brother, is next in line.

Now I am working bottom belay (a sort of safety thing) and my little sibling has completed his rappel. Excellent.

Our friend has let the rope drag his shirt into the carabiner. Doh! That is a *very* uncomfortable position to hang. For no less than one half hour he tried to free himself before I lowered my ubiquitous Spyderco Delica (see knife page) down to him on kite string. Another fifteen minutes later, his tattered sweatshirt lay in the sludge forty feet below and his descent continued. Little bro worked a good belay, and he did not plummet after removing the shirt.

I still cannot believe someone did not call Fire Rescue as an apartment building overlooks this cliff and we had at least two people in the audience. Unfortunately, my brother has the rest of the pictures of this humorous predicament.

Post-rappel relaxing. You gotta love that sweatshirt!

Don't feel too sorry for her. Through her boyfriend's mortal peril, this young lass was slumbering safely in the truck.
rappel11 jpg
A well deserved barley pop for the first belay-man to actually be needed since I started rappelling years ago.
rappel12 jpg
This was actually a suprise for me. I guess this is what I should expect to find after leaving the camera unattended with someone who didn't know how to work it!

rappel13 jpg
This would have been the result of cutting the rope accidentally, rather than his sweatshirt.
