Well this is silly. I only hiked .8 miles today. All started well. I left the library with enough time to get down to the docks, but when I stepped up to buy a ticket a sign told me there were mechanical problems. So the 10 o'clock ferrry was cancelled. The employees inside assured me that the next fery in 3 hours would depart as scheduled. That sure messed up my plans for the day but meant I could visit another British WW II cemetery and return to the library for more free Internet.

The next ferry did go as scheduled. It costs pedestrians $1 for the 2.25 hour ride. I was the only one had and had a few questions to answer from some of the people. I took some pictures from the 2nd floor deck of the passenger lounge when I wasn't planning ahead with my guidebook and maps.

The ferry was a little late so by the time I left the deck it was 15:45. I wasn't happy because I like to be setting up camp at 17:00 so I have daylight to get most things done. Then I saw the motel was open. Bingo! I could either get only a couple miles further and sleep in 30 degree weather or do the extra miles tomorrow.
