Warming Hut to Appalachian Gap
12 Oct 2005
Day 15
6.9 LT miles, 168.9 cumulative miles

So very, very comfortable last night! Thanks Sugarbush for the warming hut. Not so happy about the mouse turds in my cup this morning. How did it get on the tabletop? It doesn't seem possible.

Last night Karen and I decided to take Dan up on his offer to house us for the night. Dan and Will, our hiking companions, have a vehicle down at Appalachian Gap and live nearby. Dan offered us his shower and floor. Rather than staying a couple miles further up the trail, we are doing laundry, showering, and eating pizza.

Because of the short day we left late. We were in no rush to expose ourselves to the bitter wind outside. On the plus side, there were views out the windows. The clouds had finally broken up, and it remained that way all day. We had great views from a number of spots, but perhaps the best was from some of Sugarbush's ski runs. We even saw Camel Hump and Mt. Mansfield in the distance.

Other notable points today were Mad River Glen's ski patrol building that was also open to hikers and our first ladder of the trip. The ladder descent was short but an interesting novelty on the trail.

More tomorrow.
