I'm very thankful for the ride up to Kennebec Trailhead. The same lady that offered me a ride into Durango took me back into the mountains. It was a long ride and slow going on the old mining roads. I said farewell and started hiking and the rain immediately began to threaten. I made it 1.4 miles on the Colorado Trail and took the turn off to Taylor Lake in the rain. A few moments later I was in a full-on raging storm and I threw my tent up in the only clear spot. The spot sucked. Half of my floor space was quickly submerged. I hoped it would let up so I could hike on a bit more but it didn't and I spent the night there wet and cold. |
