I'm writing this after the fact from Salida so I'm going to make this a short entry.

Much of the hike was through semi open pasture at around 9000+ ft. The trail passed Antero, Shavano, Tabeguache and crossed an obvious lateral moraine left over from the last ice age. Near the end of the day I got to Goat Wadi and was hailed by the CME trekkers again. It was fish taco night and they were so good! Thanks guys. It was nice to see them one last time.

I headed down a little further before dark to Cree Creek and camped above US 50.
