Today was another great hiking day. Temps were cool and I barely needed any water. I think I drank 2.5 liters all day including my dinner and breakfast tea. The AZT dropped into another beautiful canyon, Jacks Canyon, where I napped for an hour. All day was in the pines with about half the trail being great pine needle covered single track. That's my favorite because it is soft and easy on the feet. The other half is on forest roads. Besides the usual fauna, today I say two groups of elk totaling 7 in all. A bunch of hunters on ATVs passed my campsite while I was cooking. I'm not sure what is in season. I'm very surprised I haven't run across lots of campsites around here. Especially during hunting season, I'd expect a lot more usage. It must be long drives to get back here. |
