I was congratulating myself on camping below the Hill. I hiked up while it was still cool and the western slopes were shaded. It was actually pleasant. The winds kicked up and were with me the rest of the day. It was a long winding path down to the Gila River. Sometimes, not a lot of times, this trail seems like it goes out of it's way to add miles. This was one of those times -- esp after the trailhead above town. The AZT crosses the Gila using a regular single lane bridge. The road from the trailhead to the bridge is about a mile, the AZT has to take this convoluted route up and down and around. Sorry. Have to stop journalling to take care of a bug problem. Next day: First there was the playful spider, then the ants, then the rain. What a night. |
