I hiked the rest of Oracle Ridge today and didn't see anyone else. Sometime after turning off onto the Cody trail I spied what I thought might be my last shade tree. So I set up under it and made a nice little lunch. I cooked up three hot dogs and had a Fosters oilcan. The beer was still cold from overnight. Wow that was nice and refreshing. That was a nice treat from Summerhaven.

Later I discovered the reason it is called the Cody trail. It's named for Buffalo Bill Cody because the trail passes by his former gold mine at the High Jinks Ranch. I stopped there for water and learned the story. This is where he sunk his money from his Wild West shows and it failed miserably.

Now Dan and Laurel are refurbishing the ranch as a home and B&B. I recommend future thruhikers check out www.highjinksranch.net and see what services they offer besides good water from their well. The ranch is a wonderfully historic place and if I wasn't set up to stay in Oracle tomorrow I would have stayed there tonight.

It's only two miles from where I'll hitch or hike into Oracle tomorrow. I could have gone in tonight but it might have been after dark. I chose to stop early at a great place with a picnic table even. I'm surrounded by low hills but the sky is turning red so I'm wrapping up and getting ready for the night.
