It feels good to leave my sedentary grad student lifestyle behind and get on a decent length trail. I do wish I had been dropped off on the AZT rather than at the Coronado National Memorial however. Hiking Joe's Canyon Trail up to the ridge added a lot of extra vertical distance with a very water-heavy pack. I did not even reach the AZT until noon then I had to hike steeply downhill for a mile to the beginning of the trail at the border. Except for that bit the rest of the day was all uphill. It was a bit of a grind but time seemed to go quickly. The weather was nice, maybe mid to upper 70s with a nice breeze. Good first day. I'm eager to crack on over Miller Peak tomorrow and put this mountain behind me.
